The Professorship for Learning Sciences and Higher Education at ETH Zurich is seeking a motivated
Research Assistant to join our team starting
early April 2026. In this role, you will support a research project conducting a meta-analysis about embodied educational design. The role involves reviewing academic literature, screening relevant studies, and extracting relevant information from the papers.
Our research group is dedicated to investigating human cognition and learning processes. We conduct theory-driven research about how people learn and how to develop learning environments to better support learning.
Project background In our current project, we are conducting a meta-analysis on embodied pedagogical designs in STEM disciplinary learning. As a research assistant, you will collaborate closely with a doctoral researcher and contribute to the
screening and coding of academic papers (
Note: Coding in this role refers to categorizing information from research articles, not programming).This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn basic methods of meta-analysis, get an overview of an educational field that is of growing interest, and gain quantitative and qualitative research insights.
Job description - Screen research articles based on the inclusion criteria
- Read and summarize academic papers
- Extract and record key study information
- Apply a structured coding scheme to research articles
- Support data organization for meta-analysis
Profile - You are studying a relevant field (e.g., psychology, education, or social sciences), or you are a highly motivated student in a STEM discipline
- You have strong attention to detail and work in a reliable, responsible manner
- You are able to think critically and identify key concepts and underlying patterns
- You have strong academic reading skills in English
- You are currently enrolled as a student at a Swiss university
- You are available to work approximately 15 hours per week in April and May and can reliably meet agreed milestones to ensure project completion by the end of May
