The position is offered in the Biocommunication Group at ETH Zürich, led by Professor Consuelo De Moraes, which works on plant-insect and insect-host-pathogen interactions through behaviour, chemistry and molecular techniques.
Job description In this position, you will have the opportunity to work in a laboratory environment and directly with insects, rearing and managing our mosquito colonies at ETHZ. Once you complete your training, the position allows for independence and responsibility, and we provide as much flexibility as possible on working hours and days. The job mainly involves:
- Taking care of mosquito eggs, larvae, pupae and adults
- Managing population sizes
- Preparing mosquitoes for experiments
- Cleaning and maintenance of the colonies and equipment
The position is for 20-30 hours per month (approx. 6-7 hours spread across 3-5 days per week), starting at the beginning of March. The position is available for an initial 6 months, and, ideally, we are looking for a student who would be interested in continuing for longer. Extra info: in case you were wondering, the mosquitoes are not infected with any diseases.
Profile - You must be a current Bachelor or Master student at ETH or UZH
- Fluent in English
- well organized and comfortable working with mosquitoes (and not allergic to mosquito bites)
- The work will take place in BSL-2 facilities and applicants must be willing to adhere to strict safety protocols
