The research group Machining Processes and EDM at inspire offers in collaboration with the Chair of Artificial Intelligence in Mechanics and Manufacturing at ETH Zürich.
Project background Our research group performs research on cutting, grinding, EDM, and simulation. We develop and refine manufacturing technologies, aiming to enhance machining processes using state-of-the-art equipment and modelling.
Job descriptionThis position offers the chance to advance cutting-edge research in manufacturing. You will develop and optimise cutting processes using modelling, AI, automation, and laser-structured tools in close collaboration with industry.
Your Tasks - Develop hybrid cutting models integrating physical knowledge with experimental and simulated data, leveraging AI and machine learning techniques
- Contribute to novel computational optimisation methods for machining processes
- Develop and implement automation solutions, including computer vision, robotics, and sensing systems for tool assessment
- Design, conduct, and analyse cutting experiments, including setup and operation of measurement equipment
- Apply advanced laser technologies (e.g. ultra-short pulsed lasers) for precision manufacturing of cutting tools
ProfileRequired experience
- CH/EU/EFTA citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland
- Master's degree (university) in materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with additive manufacturing and related theory.
- Material characterization (e.g., microscopy, mechanical testing).
- A good knowledge (written/oral) of English is a must. Knowledge of German is beneficial.
