The Department of Oral and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital Basel offers a dedicated 3–6 month fellowship for qualified clinicians with a strong interest in oral and cranio-maxillofacial radiology, virtual surgical planning and medical 3D printing. This fellowship is designed for candidates who already have a relevant professional background and wish to deepen their expertise in digital precision surgery within a high-volume tertiary referral center covering the full spectrum of Oral and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery.
Your position
Program ProfileFellows will be integrated into the clinical and technical environment of the Department of Oral and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and the in-house 3D Printing Lab. The program offers structured exposure to advanced imaging, digital treatment planning and patient-specific surgical workflows.
Key areas include:
- Oral and maxillofacial radiology, including CBCT and advanced 3D imaging
- Intraoperative 3D imaging and image-guided workflows
- 3D scanning and digital data acquisition
- Segmentation and digital workflow integration
- Virtual surgical planning and computer-assisted surgery
- Design and application of surgical guides
- Patient-specific implants and point-of-care 3D printing
- In-house production workflows, post-processing and clinical implementation
- Exposure to trauma, orthognathic surgery, oncology and reconstruction, TMJ disorders and complex cranio-maxillofacial cases
Active participation in image acquisition, scanning workflows, planning processes and interdisciplinary digital case preparation is expected.
Academic and Research FocusFellows are expected to contribute actively to an ongoing scientific project in maxillofacial imaging, digital surgery, virtual surgical planning or 3D printing.
Depending on the candidate's experience and project involvement, this may include:
- Data analysis and scientific documentation
- Contribution to manuscripts and publications
- Preparation of abstracts and presentations
- Participation in national or international scientific activities
- Integration into the academic environment of the Basel digital surgery and 3D printing ecosystem
Your profile
This fellowship is not intended for beginners. Applicants should have a clear clinical or academic background and the ability to contribute meaningfully from the start.
Eligible candidates should have:
- A degree in medicine, dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, dentomaxillofacial radiology or a comparable clinical field
- Relevant professional experience as a physician, dentist, OMFS clinician, radiology-oriented clinician or comparable specialist
- A strong interest in digital workflows, maxillofacial imaging, computer-assisted surgery and 3D printing
- High motivation for academic, technical and clinical development
- Excellent professional English skills
- German language skills are advantageous but not mandatory
