The
ETH Phenomics Center at ETH Zurich has been established as a state-of-the art research & technology platform for laboratory animal sciences. The unit provides services to more than 40 multidisciplinary research groups and encompasses 3000m2 space for specific pathogen free housing, phenotypic and behavioral analysis and transgenic services with a focus on laboratory mice.
Job description - We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated individual to act as the central point of contact between users, staff, and the cantonal veterinary office.
- The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with the animal experimentation ordinance, overseeing data management, safety, and the daily operations of the animal facility.
- This position plays a vital role in supporting high-quality, ethical animal research.
- You will collaborate closely with the senior staff and researchers on the establishment of new technologies and processes in the animal facility, including continuous improvement with the aim of ensuring the highest quality of service.
- Develop and maintain datasheets for genetically modified (GMO) animals in the national database.
- Support and oversee the implementation of mitigating measures within the animal facility.
- Administer and manage the facility's internal animal database, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the veterinarian, research groups, and the animal welfare team to ensure efficient coordination and adherence to ethical standards.
Profile - You will hold a Master's or PhD degree in life sciences or has several years of professional experience in the legal and regulatory aspects of working with laboratory animals.
- Demonstrated experience as an animal experiment study director and/or in the administration of mouse lines according to the animal experimentation ordinance is highly preferred.
- In this setting, an experimental animal science person with an engaged, customer oriented service attitude and the ability to respond to daily challenges within a dynamic work environment will thrive.
- You will support a culture of engagement with the goals of the research groups, understand and negotiate experimental set-ups and be of a proactive and goal-oriented personality.
- A clear understanding of basic research needs should be given and commitment to providing high-level support services to a multidisciplinary user community is required.
- Excellent communication skills in English and German, as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, are essential.
