ETH Zurich has launched the Manufacturing4X (M4X) Center, a transformative initiative at the intersection of advanced manufacturing, digital innovation, sustainability, and industrial collaboration. We are seeking an exceptional Managing Director to lead the operational and strategic development of this new center.
Project backgroundThe M4X Center serves as a central hub for innovation in the Swiss manufacturing ecosystem. Tackling critical industry challenges-from integrating AI and robotics to building sustainable production ecosystems-it bridges academia and industry across multiple technology tracks.
The initial appointment is planned to be fixed-term with the option to be converted to a permanent position.
Job description - Lead strategy execution in coordination with the Steering Committee and Center Director
- Oversee center operations, including finances, logistics, reporting, and growth initiatives
- Build and expand industry and academic partnerships
- Coordinate the execution of interdisciplinary research, teaching, and innovation projects
- Drive the growth of the membership program, talent pipeline, and spin-off initiatives
- Manage internal teams and ensure the effective functioning of the Management Office
- Represent the Center within ETH Zurich, to the public, and with national and international stakeholders
ProfileRequired Qualifications
- A degree in engineering, natural sciences, management, or a related field (PhD preferred)
- Proven experience (3+ years) in managing innovation or research centers, academic-industry programs, or strategic leadership in high-tech environments
- Strong grasp of manufacturing technologies, digitalization, or sustainability in industrial contexts
- Demonstrated skills in team leadership, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement
- Strategic thinking and technological vision
- Fluency in English; German is a strong asset
